You’ll find us in Chester city centre. Our address is: Chester City Baths, Union Street, Chester, CH1 1QP. The main entrance to the baths is on Union Street, opposite Grosvenor Park, and our front door is by the pelican traffic lights.

There are a number of ways you can get to us, including environmentally friendly options like walking and cycling. If you need any additional travel guidance our friendly team is happy to help.

Walking

It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk to our Baths from the Chester city centre. Chester Town Hall, Chester train station and Chester bus station are all a 10-minute stroll away. Or you can take a 15-minute walk from Handbridge or Boughton where parking is available.

Cycling

We’re lucky enough to have the Millenium Greenway cycle route running through Chester, directly past the baths. And there are 14 bike racks available inside our building for the safe storage of your bike.

What to expect

Entrance

The entrance to the baths is at the front of the building on Union Street. There are two sets of steps, with handrails, leading up to the front door.

Reception

As you enter the building you arrive in our bright and spacious reception area, complete with the original 1901 turnstile! The double doors ahead lead to the café and the pool area.

To your right, our friendly members of staff are available to help you. And, to your left is our information board.

At the far end of the hall, to your left, you’ll see a stone staircase with handrails leading to the viewing balcony for The Atlantic pool and our two conference rooms.

Bike room

We have 14 bicycle racks available, inside our building, for the safe storage of your bike if you’ve cycled here.

Bar

Past the bike room, on the ground floor is our bar. A welcoming, well-lit space, the bar also acts as an exhibition area displaying fascinating images of the baths from times gone by, along with historical information.

Here to be enjoyed by anyone who visits, the bar is fully stocked, and operates via an honesty box. Free Wifi access is available, plus there’s a projector screen and male and female toilets.

The Atlantic pool

The Atlantic is our 25-yard, rectangular pool, featuring up to five swimming lanes.

You can enter the pool via a set of ladders or via walk down steps at the shallow end. Our pool depth ranges from one metre deep at the shallow end to two metres deep at the deep end.

A wide variety of activities take place in the pool, which means we have lots of floats, pool noodles and arm discs for our younger swimmers, as well as fins and pull buoys for our more experienced swimmers.

There are 18 individual changing cubicles on the poolside where you can leave your belongings. Three poolside showers are also available.

Viewing balcony

Our viewing balcony is accessed via the staircase in the Reception Hall. Seating is available and the space enjoys natural light from the glass roof above.

The Pacific pool

The Pacific is our smaller pool. It is currently closed and undergoing repairs.

Changing rooms

As you enter the Atlantic Pool area you will see 18 individual changing cubicles to your right, along the side of the pool. The first two cubicles have movable chairs and the remaining 16 have a fitted bench. All cubicles have hanging hooks and can be locked from inside.

To your left you’ll see male and female communal changing rooms. Both are fitted with toilets and eco-friendly motion sensor lighting. The communal rooms still have their original Victorian tiled flooring – which looks fabulous but can be slippery when wet!

They are fitted with low level benches.
You can leave your belongings in the cubicles or communal changing rooms ready for when you get out of the pool.

Toilets and showers

There are several toilets located in the building. All toilets can be easily accessed on the ground floor level, with no steps or change in floor level.

For those who are not swimming, male and female toilets are located in the café area. They have eco-friendly motion sensor lighting.

Swimmers can use the toilets located inside the male and female communal changing rooms.

There is a communal, poolside showering area, with three shower heads by The Atlantic pool.

Café

Our café can be accessed from the Reception Hall on the ground floor. It’s a large, relaxing space, with seating for 15-20 people and a viewing window to The Pacific pool (currently undergoing repairs). Free Wifi is available.

Conference rooms

The conference room is accessed via the stone staircase in our Reception Hall. The staircase comprises 15 steps with a handrail on both sides. There are then four more steps, with a handrail on the right-hand side, up to a hallway where our two conference rooms are located. Both conference rooms are accessed through a push door – they are heavy fire doors.

The largest of our two conference rooms has a table with seating for 10 -12 people. Two large whiteboards are available, along with a TV screen that can be connected to a computer and used for presentations.

The smaller conference room has a table that seats 6-9 people. There is a TV screen on the wall that can be connected to a computer. Both rooms are quiet, spacious and bright with views of Grosvenor Park. Free wifi is available.

Gym

Our gym is a multipurpose room, used for a wide range of activities. With lots of space available it can accommodate 20-25 people.

The gym is accessed via the pool area or via an accessible entrance on Forest Street at the rear of the building.
