The team

Our friendly team members, many of whom are volunteers, are here to help make your visit to the Baths as rewarding as possible.

Here’s an introduction to the people behind the Baths’ success, who look forward to welcoming you soon.

Brian McCann

Chair, Director/Trustee

I first came to the Baths as an eight-year-old learning to swim, and never really left! Over the years I’ve been a swimmer, water polo player, teacher, swimming parent, and a volunteer in a variety of roles for both the Charity and the Swimming Club. As Chair, my focus is on operating the Baths safely and efficiently for today’s users, while securing its long-term future for generations to come.

David Reid

Treasurer, Director/Trustee

I joined Chester Sub-Aqua Club in 2019, using the Baths to store equipment, train, and introduce others to the undersea world. In 2023 I joined the Board as Treasurer, bringing financial management skills to help ensure the long-term viability of this vital community asset.

Jane Nunn

Company Secretary, Director/Trustee

I’m passionate about swimming, both as a competitor and teacher. I regularly compete in long-distance open water events and also teach swimming and water safety to share my knowledge and love of the sport. I train at the Baths as a member of Chester Triathlon Club and City of Chester Swimming and Water Polo Club, and I care deeply about maintaining this unique facility for future generations.

Steve Clarkson

Operations, Director/Trustee

I’ve been a regular at Chester City Baths for around eight years, drawn by a passion for water sports and community spaces. Over time, my involvement grew, and about four years ago I was honoured to become Operations Director. I now oversee the day-to-day running of the Baths, working closely with our dedicated volunteers and staff.
With a background in problem-solving and logistics, I help navigate the challenges of maintaining and improving a historic building, from boilers and repairs to planning future developments. For me, the Baths is more than bricks and water – it’s a place where people of all ages come to swim, train, and connect. I’m passionate about keeping that spirit alive for generations to come.

Claire Gloyne-Phillips

Investor Relations, Director/Trustee

My involvement with the Baths began when my son joined City of Chester Swimming and Water Polo Club in 2018. Since then I’ve served as Club Secretary and, since 2022, as Chair. The Baths has been the Club’s home since it opened in 1901, and I became a Director to help ensure it remains the heart of aquatic sport in Chester for many generations to come.

Martin Kay

IT Officer, Director/Trustee

I first learned to swim at Chester City Baths in the 1970s and have been connected ever since. As a long-time member of Chester Sub-Aqua Club of more than 15 years (many as Chairman), I know just how important this place is to the city’s watersports community. My role is to help ensure the Baths continues to run smoothly, grow sustainably, and remain both a hub for aquatic sport and a proud part of Chester’s heritage.

Natalie Paddock

Governance Advisor, Director/Trustee

I joined the Board in January 2025, bringing more than 17 years’ experience as a solicitor specialising in corporate law and governance. My connection to the Baths goes back much further: I was a competitive swimmer here in my youth, and now my children swim here too. I’m also active in the City of Chester Swimming Club, supporting the next generation of swimmers. I’m committed to helping preserve and enhance this historic facility so it can continue to serve the Chester community for years to come.

Baths Operations Manager

Staying afloat takes a little help

Chester City Baths is a charity run by volunteers with paid lifeguards and a pool manager. Sadly ticket sales alone don’t cover the costs of running our pool and maintaining the beautiful Victorian building it sits in. Be part of something special and help us preserve this special place by donating today.
